I am still rolling in pleasure from yesterdays wondrous warmth. It's a fine, fine thing to hop on the bike at 7 am in shorts and a t-shirt and be completely, perfectly comfortable. As usual, this means I open all my windows and the bees* come in to play. I think I've got them all out now. I had three for MONTHS in the fall and early winter- they got in on a bright sunny day, went into hibernation that night, and I kicked them out when they woke back up.
Speaking of last Fall, Ash got me into Kombucha Tea when I was in Portland. It's very tasty stuff, but really expensive. I remembered my friend Gravity used to have some growing on top over her fridge years ago, so I did my research and decided to make some. Via the Kombucha Exchange I found that the Seattle Metaphysical Library had babies, so yesterday I went and bought a nice vessel, as well as a couple of jars for some other ferment projects.
See, what happened was this...I went to go see my friends Charlie & Jesse & Kieran and mentioned the Kombucha thing, and Charlie recommended a book "Wild Fermentation" By Sandor Katz...so I got the book and fell in love with it. So yesterday was Dr. Science day, as I put up seven pounds of cabbage for sour kraut, as well as some kim-chi like thing, and started the Kombucha vat. While I was getting set up I dropped by the metaphysical library and spent some time talking to a very cool young man who worked there. Good to make that connection. I came home and finished getting everything started.
Today is pretty quiet- re-purposing the room, putting away the winter things, setting aside stuff that needs to be recycled (mostly clothes) and re-charging for the coming weekend in Bellingham.
*Yes, I know they are actually wasps, but I think of them as bees, so I call them bees.
