A couple of weeks back on a Friday...right around the thirtieth, I guess, I found an interesting ad on Craigslist for a "cool singlespeed bike". It looked possible, seemed the right size, and had a Brooks saddle on it. I made arrangements to visit it the following morning, and bought it. It's an '82 Trek 311, came from Bikeworks, and was great except for mountain bike flat bars with weird ergo grips, shitty brakes and pedals I disliked. I bought it.
Sunday I ran around and found brakes that worked, bought drop bars, levers, cables, and tape and set to work. It all went great, though I lucked out by getting a ridiculously low quote (based on what turned out to be an epic job) for drilling the brake mounts. Thanks!
Here is the Silver Machine:
Rode it all week, and put it on the Amtrak to Portland the following Friday. I stayed with my friend Erin, saw a ton of people from Flagstaff of Saturday night, visited an old friend from high school (and the Lower Haight) and saw even more people on Sunday. Mainly I rode my bike all over Portland. They asked me to, I even have proof:
I rode to Mt. Tabor which is very, very green (for a volcano) and has this amazing doorway of tree on top:
It also has the coolest bathrooms ever, which are not in service, so I would like to convert them to my home, if that would be all right with the Volcano Gods:
I rode down to Oak Bottom, and had a good sandwich near there, and then rode back up the other side of the river...this is a really excellent trail, with just great views:
Wildlife photography up next!
